Welcome to Schools Beyond Screens - Baltimore City

We are a coalition of parents and allies, part of a growing national movement, advocating for school policies in Baltimore City Public Schools grounded in independent research, public accountability and developmentally-appropriate practice.

Who We Are

Schools Beyond Screens-Baltimore City was founded in 2026 by parents who were concerned about the prevalence of education technology and devices in schools, despite well-established research that ed tech distracts student learning and can reduce test scores.

We were further concerned about BCPSS' early embrace of generative AI technology on school-issued devices (both chatbots and AI enhancements on school apps) without communication to parents, without evidence that generative AI improves student learning, and despite evidence that generative AI can reduce student creativity, negatively impact critical thinking skills, and pose dangers to mental health.

We are not anti-technology, but pro-learning! We believe that technology use should always be evidence-based and utilized in ways that are known to promote student learning, rather than pose risks of diminishing student achievement and safety.
