LAUSD Board members propose resolution curbing screen time in schools

Nick Melvoin (BD 4), Tanya Ortiz Franklin (BD 7), and Karla Griego (BD 5) are jointly proposing a resolution on Tuesday 3/10 that will direct LAUSD to examine the role screens in schools and come up with a comprehensive policy to limit overuse. We expect that other board members will support this resolution as well.

What that means:

We believe your children will enter school in August under a new tech policy—one that your tireless advocacy helped to shape.

This is a win.

Student Tech Bill of Rights

Schools Beyond Screens has developed a Student Tech Bill of Rights that we hope advocacy organizations & school districts all over the country will adopt and adapt. It has been endorsed by experts like Emily Cherkin (The Screentime Consultant) and Julie & Andy Liddell (The EdTech Law Center).

We have shared this document with key LAUSD Board members in the hopes that it might serve as a “North Star” for decisions around procurement, curriculum, and pedagogy.
